Interview with Radha Mitchell
In the entertainment world where actresses are so prevalent, one has to really be notable to generate any hope of success. Success for an actress depends upon the ability to maintain a healthy flow of work. Radha Mitchell is one of those successful actresses, who is found over and over again in a variety of roles. First finding success and fame on television, Mitchell made the difficult jump into film where she has achieved even greater success. From “Pitch Black,” to “Phone Booth,” to “Man on Fire,” Mitchell’s career started snowballing, boosting her into bigger and more prominent roles. Last year she starred alongside Bruce Willis in “Surrogates.”
EcoNews: South OC Ocean Desalination
As Southern California’s water supplies continue to be cut, local projects that improve water reliability become increasingly critical. One local project that Orange County water providers are currently developing is the South Orange Coastal Ocean Desalination Project in Dana Point. This project would potentially yield up to 15 million gallons per day of drinking water for residents of South Orange County. The project is a partnership between the Municipal Water District of Orange County (MWDOC), Laguna Beach County Water District, Moulton Niguel Water District, City of San Clemente, City of San Juan Capistrano, South Coast Water District and Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.
MLB Spring Training ~Special Topics
There is no one better than Mike Scioscia at winning close games. He is the Angels’ ace in the hole, and, entering the 2009 postseason, he gave them the added confidence of knowing they wouldn’t be outcoached. On the contrary, Yankee manager Joe Girardi entered the playoffs with grave doubts surrounding his ability to coach a team through a month of high pressure baseball. And his post-season efforts didn’t do much to dispel those doubts. From poor handling of his bullpen and lineup to thoughtless late inning offensive substitutions, Girardi looked lost in the moment. Yet, thanks to Alex Rodriguez’s late inning heroics and Carsten Charles
Affordable Luxury ~ Laguna Riviera Resort
There’s something to be said for large-scale corporate hotels. That something won’t be said about the family-run Laguna Riviera Beach Resort, a longtime favorite Laguna Beach inn whose character is as far from cookie-cutter corporate as you can get. Built in the late ‘40s and recently renovated, the Laguna Riviera offers contemporary comforts and amenities without sacrificing its unique warmth and charm. Its distinctive personality and ideal location delight new guests and keep regulars returning season after season. The continuity of character results from the fact that the hotel has been owned and operated by the same family for over 60 years.
Interview with Orianthi
The Internet can be your friend or your enemy depending on how you use it. The music and the entertainment industries are still learning how to tame this giant, but some artists have already benefitted greatly from the web. Orianthi is one such artist. From the great down under (Australia), Orianthi has been on the music scene for only a short time, but has still managed to make her mark in a huge way. She has a hit single, “According to You,” and was hand-selected to be a guitarist for the biggest name in music—Michael Jackson. That’s right. Michael Jackson handpicked Orianthi to be his guitarist during the “This is It” concert tour before his untimely death.
Restaurant Review: Zimzala
It’s a fun word to say and a fun restaurant to frequent: Zimzala, in the Shorebreak Hotel in Huntington Beach. Defined by Riptionary as “Free-spirited person who finds peace with the sand between their toes,” Zimzala combines the friendly seaside vibe of its PCH location with the exotic allure of its authentic Mediterranean-coast cuisine. Three words to describe it? Uncommon, uncomplicated, and unforgettable! With a menu designed for sharing, Zimzala is equally ideal for romantic dinners or boisterous group get-togethers.
Plastic Pollution Coalition
The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is what has become of the vortex of ocean and air currents called the North Pacific Gyre. Scientists estimate it is two times the size of the United States and all plastic waste, large and small, which fragments into particles that never biodegrade. There are gyres in all 5 major oceans in the world. Poisoning marine wildlife, polluting oceans and destroying human health, the plastic drifts off land and is dumped off boats. “The Industry & NOAA call it ‘marine debris,’ but we call it ‘plastic pollution’ because that is what it is, says Dianna Cohen, one of the co-founders of Plastic Pollution Coalition along with Lisa Boyle, Esq., Manuel Maqueda and Daniella Russo.
Showing Some Skin
If someone had told Skin Industries owner Al Borda 11 years ago that his budding action sports brand would one day include high-end fashion design, he probably would have laughed at you. After all, in 1998, this budding Carlsbad-based motocross company centered on freestyle motocross body kits. Trendy, vintage V-necks were the last things on Borda’s mind. Fast- forward a little over a decade and it seems that this scrappy, independent company has spent years fitting into a new “skin.” And as Skin Industries begins to turn the corner from an action-sports company into a “sports-fashion” company, critics and consumers alike try to point out the brand’s suddenly widespread market appeal.
Restaurant Review: Ws China Bistro
When you enter a restaurant that is the creation of Cuban-born epicures of Chinese ancestry who were raised in Peru, you have high hopes that your dining experience will be something beyond ordinary. Thanks to the culinary brilliance of Fernando, Roberto, and Marcelino Chong, your expectations will be delightfully surpassed. Call it Chinese Fusion, call it sheer genius, but call to make a reservation now. With its innovative take on Chinese classics, Ws China Bistro explores the exciting alliance forged by Asian and Latin cuisines.
